Is Jachai Polite's Stock Falling?
According to multiple reports, Florida pass rusher, Jachai Polite, is falling down draft boards after some disappointing interviews with teams at the combine. Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller also reported that a scout told him the hamstring injury that held polite out of the on-field drills was “Bulls**t”. The revelation about him failing to impress in interviews should drop his stock and quite possibly will deter some franchises from being comfortable with having him on their team.
When talking to a reporter, Polite said that certain teams “bashed him” and he “didn’t know to expect” some of the inquiries about his character. When asked about his interview with the Packers and what type of questions they asked him, Polite said that “…just character questions, accountability. Then, when they turn on the film, bad plays”. I am concerned about Polite’s maturity and ability to take criticism and some others have expressed doubts about his work ethic on the field.
It is unlikely, but since it is draft season, there is also a good chance that the rumor about him “faking” the hamstring injury to get out of the drills could just be a concocted story to make him available to teams lower in the draft order.
Overall, Polite is a sack artist off the edge with top level bend and burst. My major concerns about his game are his functional strength and his inconsistent hand usage. He is a top 5 edge player on my board and carries a first round grade next to his name at this time.
