Name: Marquise Brown

Position: WR

School: Oklahoma

Listed Height: 5’9

Listed Weight:  166

Strengths: Brown is an exceedingly explosive WR who has the ability to hit his top gear early in order to make defenses pay vertically. He defeats tight man coverage with stutters, jabs, and speed releases. In his stem, he can suddenly misdirect to open the DB’s hips and expose his blind spot. Brown shows real “highway” speed and the ability to vary his route pace so that he can clear his hips and uncover. He separates at the top of his routes with hip sinkage at the breaking point, which allows him to carry his speed out of his cuts and transition fluidly. He displays attention to detail as a route runner, and can make quick twitch altercations to his route to get into cushion to gain more space. Due to his explosiveness and lethal bursts of acceleration, “Hollywood” is a 3 level receiving threat with catch and go ability at the line or off of short distance route depths. After the catch, he is hard to contain based off of his quickness, and he displays plus elusiveness to make open field movements. He can adjust to the ball away from his frame, and works quickly upfield and into run mode. Brown can also move the chains off of manufactured touches.

Weaknesses: Brown lacks the body build to shield himself from hits and does not currently have the functional strength to grab the ball and retain control in contested situations. His frame can get caught up vs press if he is not able to separate early with his release. He needs to consistently pull the ball back in tight to his chest to prevent against swipes. Brown lacks much hand strength at the catch point, and can fail to track the ball to the right location over his shoulder.

Overview and Insights: Brown is severely undersized, but tests defenses as a vertical route runner and run after the catch specialist. He flashes some pristine routes and releases, and that mixed with his explosiveness makes him hard to check in coverage. If he can add productive weight to his frame and works on his hand consistency, then Brown will be a valuable threat who can who can tear apart the defense from the slot and the perimeter.
